World Heritage in Guatemala  ~Quirigua~


Quirigua is an ancient Maya archaeological site in the department of lzabal in south-eastern Guatemala.
There is north of Copan in Honduras, ancient Mayan ruins in the jungle area on the river Motagua.
Quirigua Archaeological Park is a culture heritage of Guatemala has been a World Heritage Site in 1981.
Quirigua is known to be Maya city of Copan flourished as a satelite city around the year 200.

The moment was built in the late 8th century a dozen, which is carved royal portraits and characters, such as God or Maya.
Many buidings have not kept intact, the monument has been engraved numerous portraits and various Maya text. It makes valuable to study the history of the Maya civilization.
